AACOG has received solid waste grant funds from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for solid waste implementation programs. For the FY 2024- 2025 solid waste management program,$769,760 has been allocated to the region:
$ 384,880 for FY 2024 and $384,880 for FY 2025. Of that, $300,000 per year is available for implementation projects and $469,760 is available for regional coordination. The local government implementation funds are intended to provide grant funding for projects, which will provide a direct and measurable effect on reducing the amount of waste going into regional landfills by diverting various materials from the municipal solid waste stream for beneficial use, or by reducing waste generation at the source.
